Summer Roofing Maintenance
Summer is a time of warm weather, fun in the sun, and the infamous Texas thunderstorms. Due to the increased likelihood for storms, its important to properly maintain your roof to prevent leaks and damage. Here are three easy summer roofing maintenance tips for your home.
1. Check Early, Check Often
Go up on your roof a few times a year to check for any apparent damage such has broken or torn shingles, holes, or rotting. It is also good to check up in your attic for any signs of water damage. Look for any bending or warping of the wood in your attic, dark spots, or mold growth. If a particularly nasty storm passes through, you want to check afterwards to make sure your roof is still in good shape. Catching problems early is your best bet for keeping repair costs down.
2. Seal It
When you go up on your roof, check and make sure the sealant is intact around any vents or skylights you may have. When material changes from shingles to metal, the sealant can wear down and become a leaking hazard. It never hurts to put another layer of sealant around areas that are looking questionable.
3. Annual Inspection
While checking your roof on your own is good practice, it is always a good idea to have a roofing professional come out and check your roof at least once a year. They have a trained eye to pick up on any roofing problem areas and it can save you a lot of money in the long run. Look up a reputable roofing company in your area and call for a licensed roofing technician to come out and take a look at your roof.
