Inspecting for Hail Damage After a Summer Storm
Summer is the welcome season of barbecuing, outdoor recreation, and vacations. However, summer is also notorious for bringing big storms, hail, and the roof damage that goes with it. At Peak Roofing & Construction, we know how important inspecting for hail damage is in order to maintain the structural integrity of your house. By knowing the signs, you’ll be able to spot roof damage right away and prevent further deterioration. Here are three signs you may need roof repair.
Leaks and Water Damage
Let’s start with the obvious: leaks are one of the clearest signs your roof may have encountered damage from weather. If there wasn’t a leak before a recent storm and there is after, it’s wise to have your roof inspected. Water damage from severe weather can escalate into a host of more serious problems and leave your home vulnerable to further wear from the next storm if left untreated.
Dented Metal Pieces
If you are comfortable getting on top of your roof, do so with extreme caution before inspecting for hail damage. Check the metal parts of your roof for signs of impact. Metal vents and valleys will show dents and dings if they’ve been affected by severe weather. These marks will also reveal the size of the hail.
Damaged Roof and Shingles
Next, look at the ridge cap and inspect for damage. Because this part of your roof is flat, it will take a direct hit and sustain the most intense wear. Check the shingles and their edges for signs of impact, including missing chunks, exposed substrate, cracking, and bruising. Dings may not always be visible, so run your hand over the shingle surface to feel for dents.
