Fall is a Great Time for Roof Replacement

North Texas Roof ReplacementI love fall in North Texas! It’s the time for so many things we love to do as a family like Grapevine’s GrapeFest, the Plano Balloon Festival, and FOOTBALL (especially my University of North Texas Mean Green team in Denton).

Ideal temperatures for working hard

For North Texas roofing contractors, fall brings cooler weather. We celebrate surviving another Texas summer and enjoy the gentle breezes and cloudy days. It also means better working conditions for our crews and less risk of heat exhaustion, which is a real concern for roofers in Dallas-Fort Worth. Since the extreme cold hasn’t arrived, the crews can put in longer hours and get even more work done for customers.

Extreme temperatures affect materials

Fall and Spring are great times to install roofing materials. In Summer, extreme heat softens the tar on asphalt shingles making them soft. As a result, you can damage the surface granules when crews walk across them during the installation. The natural warmth of fall gives the perfect amount of heat to make sure the adhesive strip on the shingles seals correctly. In cold weather, asphalt shingles become brittle and can crack during installation, so we typically wait until the temperatures rise above 40 degrees.

Metal roofs also are more challenging to install in the severe heat and cold because of the natural expansion of the metal. There are techniques we use to adjust for the expansion during those times, but there’s nothing like perfect natural conditions to make a job go off without a hitch.

Act now and eliminate winter worries

If you believe your roof is damaged from a previous storm, do not wait until Spring to replace it. Problems that are minor now can turn serious if we have a hard winter freeze. When the thaw comes, you may find a small leak has become significant, and you have significant damage that may not be covered by insurance. Read Jeff’s recent blog about denied insurance claims.

Call us for a free inspection. We’ll provide honest and upfront feedback so you can determine if your current roof is ready for the winter months, if an insurance claim should be made, or if you need a simple repair. Peak Roofing & Construction is fully insured (including worker’s compensation), and all our work is guaranteed. Let us help eliminate any concerns with your roof, gutters, windows or other exterior needs.
