Common Reasons for Leak Problems on a Flat Roof

Common Reasons for Leak Problems on a Flat RoofWhen you own a flat-roof, you know that the problems or concerns that you have are unique to commercial roofing. Flat roofs, just like any roof, can leak on occasion. It is important that you have a professional roofer nearby that can assist you when you discover a leak on your commercial roof. Peak Roofing & Construction has extensive experience in repairing leaks on a wide variety of commercial roofs, even flat roofs! Here are a few of the most common reasons we see flat roofs leak.

Damaged Flashing

By far the most common reason we see roofs leak is because of damaged perimeter flashing. Along the edges of your flat roof, you may see a smooth covering of flashing that protects the roofing membrane edges from moisture. Overtime flashing can become damaged or lose, allowing the roofing cover to get exposed and allows moisture and water to begin to seep in and cause leaking. You should perform regular inspections of your roof and if you notice any peeling or cracks in your flashing, contact Peak Roofing & Construction. We can repair your flashing before leaks and water damage occur.

Clogged Drains

On your flat roof, you have a drainage system that prevents your roof from turning into an unintentional rooftop swimming pool. If you notice standing water that is not draining on your roof, you need to call a roofing expert right away. If too much water begins to pool, it can start to leak into your building.

Membrane Damage

A waterproof membrane protects your roof from the elements. When the membrane is exposed to sun, rain, and wind, it can sometimes tear or crack. Make sure to always repair membranes as soon as possible to prevent leaks.
