Real Men Wear Pink – Peak Supports Breast Cancer Awareness
It is my great privilege to participate in this year’s Real Men Wear Pink fundraiser organized by the American Cancer Society. Real Men Wear
Pink is a community of men across the nation stepping out to raise money for this important cause. Here in Collin County, there are 24 of us who took the challenge, many returning from last year. When you visit the Collin County page…and hopefully donate…you can see the participants and read about why they chose to support Breast Cancer Awareness.
Why I wear pink
My wife, Joey, and I both have family members affected by breast cancer. My aunt lost her life to it. Joey’s grandmother suffered from breast and ovarian cancer. In fact, most of our Peak family has a relative or close friend that has dealt with it.
Facts about breast cancer
There are tons of statistics about breast cancer but here are a few of them that struck a chord with me starting with the most shocking that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. That statistic alone is enough to convince us we need to find a cure quickly.
- Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer among women and the second leading cause of cancer death.
- In the United States, an estimated 252,710 women will be diagnosed with it and 40,500 will die. An estimated 2,470 men will be diagnosed and 460 will die.
- Over 3.3 million breast cancer survivors currently live in the United States.
Please join me in wearing pink and helping fight this horrible disease. Donate now!
