Most Common Summer Roof Repairs
The most common damage that is seen can luckily be repaired easily enough. These include:
- Missing Shingles
- Flashing Leaks
- Gutter Damage
- Insufficient Ventilation
Getting these issues taken care of now will guarantee the prevention of worse damage that will occur with the oncoming storms and weather in the months to come.
Missing Shingles
Missing shingles is the most common reason for leaky roofs. With the very common asphalt shingles on modern homes, it is hard to see if there are a couple missing, let alone one, unless you see them in your yard.
Flashing Leaks
Flashing leaks are where there is an unsealed gap along the edge of the roof and any other interrupting surface on the roof. Examples are along skylights, chimneys, any metalwork, along walls, and pipes.
Gutter Damage
The gutters of your home may be old or damaged which can result in the angle of the gutter not being steep enough. This leads to pooling water and caught debris that can attribute to rot along the edge of the roof. Gutters can also leak at any of the unsealed miters connecting the sections.
Insufficient Ventilation
Another commonly repaired system is the ventilation. Usually occurring in older homes, roofs with inadequate ventilation can develop dry rot and the roof will deteriorate from the inside outwards.
