How Often Should I Clean My Gutters?
If you ignore the gutters on your home, you might end up with a costly repair bill. Gutters keep rain and snow from accumulating on the roof by directing water away from your home. Because of their shape and exposure, however, gutters tend to accumulate leaves, dirt and debris. To keep your gutters functioning properly, clean them thoroughly at least twice a year, at the start of spring and fall.
When cleaning your gutters, always wear gloves, a dust mask and safety goggles for protection. Use a carefully positioned, stable ladder to climb up and reach the top of your gutters. Remove any dirt and debris with a hand trowel, check for loose or damaged parts and then rinse the gutter with a hose.
