Horizontal Fence: Looking for Something Different?

Categories: Fences

A horizontal fence is an easy way to provide a different lookHorizontal wood fences are growing in popularity and our fence installers are doing more of them than previous years. One reason is it’s an ideal option for homeowners and commercial business owners who want to stand out a little but not be so outlandish the neighbors stop talking to them.

Affordable and easy to install

Because they typically use the same materials, a horizontal fence is normally about the same price as a vertical wood fence. By using wood, you are earning some “environmentally friendly” points as well and probably blending in nicely with the other homes (gaining you some points with the HOA at the same time). If you seal and take care of the wood slats, your new fence can easily last a decade or more.

If you are taking it on as a DIY project, invest in a good level, I personally recommend a laser level. This way you can look at the length of the fence and not board-by-board. It’s also a good choice for areas where you want different heights in certain areas.

Multiple style options

Just like vertical fences, you have many options:

  • Choose the type of wood you’d like. The most common in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston are cedar, pine and redwood.
  • Pick the width of boards. You’ll be surprised at the overall visual difference of a 6” compared to an 8” board. Thanks to the internet, it’s easy to find photos of the exact type of fence you’re considering before you make a final decision.
  • Select the style of board installation including board-on-board, spaced board, or split rail.
  • Consider several colors of stain. What might look good for a small fence, might not look as pleasing on a large span of fencing.

Pick a reliable fencing contractor

Make sure the contractor you pick does a significant number of wood fences. They will be in the best position to make expert recommendations. Also check for online reviews, accreditations, and Better Business Bureau (BBB) status. The professionals at Peak Roofing & Construction are available to help guide you through the process. And, we guarantee our workmanship on every service we provide so you can trust our professionalism and quality.
