Gutter gadgets…what’s not to love? If you see our storage area, it looks like most Dallas and Fort Worth garages. “Gadgets-a-plenty.” Admittedly, some work better than others. As Fall approaches and the weather gets bearable again, you need to clean your gutters. Why Fall gutter cleaning is important

Falling leaves target open gutters. The gutters frequently have just enough moisture to make leaves stick and then pile up, eventually causing problems. If not maintained, problems can range from flooding over the side of the gutters all the way to gutters disconnecting from your home or business and damaging the roof. On a side note, if you do have significant leaf build-up, consider adding leaf guards.

Grab the Shop-Vac®

That Shop-Vac sitting in your garage waiting for the next home improvement project or minor flooding can be handy tool for your gutters. Shop Vac sells a gutter cleaning kit you buy online. It can be a handy tool but make sure you have a Shop-Vac with a blower port and a 2.5-inch diameter hose.

Leaf blower for gutter cleaning

You likely already own a leaf blower. This fun-to-use tool can do a lot more than clean off sidewalks and pool decks. If you clean your gutters frequently, this may be all you need. Some higher-end leaf blowers even have gutter cleaning accessory kits. My suggestion is to keep a trowel handy so you can easily loosen and scoop out debris that doesn’t blow out easily.

The ultimate robot gutter cleaner

If you’re a Roomba fan, you might want to check out its cousin, the iRobot® Looj. Yes, the same concept as the floor sweeping gadget has been applied to gutters. With a remote control in hand, you can maneuver this gadget from the ground. Admittedly, I have yet to spend the $400+ to try it but I’m sure it provides a lot of fun for hard-core gadget lovers.
