The Difference Between TPO and PVC Roofing

Categories: Commercial Roofing

tpo and pvc roofingWithin the sphere of single-ply commercial roofing – meaning roofing needs for businesses and other companies that aren’t residences – there are two roofing materials that buyers need to make a decision about. The choices are TPO roofing and PVC roofing. The two are both very effective in their jobs, but are slightly different when it comes to the material they’re made of.

Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) Vs. Polyvinylchloride (PVC)

TPO stands for thermosplastic polyolefin. This material is energy efficient and reflective of sunlight. TPO is also very easy and quick to deal with when it comes to installation, so it’s a nice go-to when the roofing needs are immediate. It is extremely durable and lasts for a long time, as it is resistant to grow mold or suffer cracks.

When it comes to PVC (which is a material called polyvinylchloride), commercial building owners might purchase this material instead if they’re less likely to have extreme weather. PVC is good for more moderate climates and flatter roofs; it is very low maintenance, which is a plus. Like TPO though, it is also energy efficient.

In fact, with both materials you’re likely to have lower bills due to the cooling effect these roofing materials have.
