Can I Power Wash My Roof?
Can I Power Wash My Roof?
Depending on your roof type, you might want to avoid using a power washer. If used improperly or on certain surfaces, the pressure from a power washer can damage the materials and shave up to 10 years off your roof’s life.
Rather than resorting to a power washer, follow our simple steps for how to clean a roof safely and effectively. First, wait for a dry, overcast day – clouds will help prevent the cleaning solution from evaporating too quickly. To create a simple cleaner, pour one gallon of bleach, a cup of trisodium phosphate (TSP) and five gallons of water into your garden sprayer. Wait 20 minutes to allow the TSP to dissolve. Spray your roof in sections and lightly scrub the solution into the surface using a soft broom. As a last step, rinse your roof with clean water. If you are not comfortable doing your own roof cleaning, or simply don’t have the time, contact Peak Roofing & Construction at (972) 335-7325.
